My Moment of the Day

The light rail was crowded today, which is not too terribly surprising. Since holding a bike just creates far more of a problem than it needs to, I put my bike up in the hooks. Getting the bike down is rather easy, so long as no one is crowding the three foot wide passageway leading from the bike car to the regular car where the doors are.

When someone is standing in that passage however, a problem arises. Today was the case, and as I was getting my bike down, I hit an old man with my handles. Now before anyone freaks, IT WASN’T A HARD HIT! He was okay, and I apologized. This would be more of a big deal, but this is the second old person I have hit in this situation. (What have we learned here old people?)

I felt terrible, but no one was really hurt and we all have to move on with our lives. I quickly discovered that I had gotten my bike off a few stops early, meaning that I had to wait with my situation stewing. Sitting not far from where the incident went down was a group of mentally handicapped and deaf children. One of their chaperones, who was also deaf, pulled her friend over and had them translate to me to make sure that knew I hit the old man in the face with my bike.

A deaf girl called me out on hitting an old man in the face with my bike.
